We’re making a film!
I first met Jake in Cincinnati, Ohio, at what has to be the loudest, most crowded brewery I'd ever stepped foot in. A No Laying Up Ohio roost golf event brought us both there, but he'd been in my orbit for quite some time. That night, he made fun of me for thinking Skyline is disgusting, but accepted me anyway.

Jake's choice to fight stage 4 colon cancer in the public light meant lots of folks knew his story. Organically, through Twitter and No Laying Up local communities, Jake's story spread, and a community swelled behind him and Roz in their battle to regain the normal life of a young couple in their mid-30s.
The celebrations, the clean scans, ringing the bell, frustrations with the medical system, spots popping up, the suffocating financial weight, the unknown in each up and down...a community followed along and offered encouragement, prayers, and a sense of "we're beating this together." The fuel to keep going.
Jake and I have been chatting for a couple of years about telling his story. At the time, I just finished a documentary profiling Jim Hartsell, another golf-obsessed gem of a person, and his story of finding healing in Scotland. I always wanted to create a music documentary, and this project lived in the dream phase for quite some time.
This spring, we picked the idea back up, and it gained steam. We secured a landing spot for the film on the No Laying Up YouTube channel as well as funding from NLU, Imperial Headwear, and Stone Creek Coffee. We began production in July and will complete production this fall with an early 2026 release.
So, we're doing it. We're making a film and bringing you along for the ride. Grab some merch (all going towards Jake's GoFundMe), listen to Year of the Buffalo, and Keep Showing Up.
